Thursday, May 26 Fourthie Pool/Movie Party
The girls will eat at their regular lunch time in the cafeteria, and then the entire fourth grade will swim from 12:00 - 1:00. The girls should bring swim suit, towel, goggles, swim cap. After swimming, they will change, and then the wonderful mothers who are chaperoning this party will have a snack and a movie for the girls. These girls have worked hard all year, given their best, and now, they will have a really fun party to celebrate them and their walk across the green! Dismissal is the usual 3:25.
June 3 Final Assembly 9:00 Girls come to school at 8:00, the usual time. After the assembly, there will be a little party on the patio, and then the girls will leave with their parents.

Final Assembly Information

Dear Parents,
It seems hard to believe, but Final Assembly is almost here. You are probably already thinking of what your daughter will wear. There are a few guidelines that you should know before that first shopping trip!
Although the dress may be any color, your daughter should be appropriately dressed for this special occasion. If the dress does not meet the requirements of the dress code, then your daughter may wear a light sweater. You should be aware that the girls will be under bright lights, and it can get very hot. The length of the dress should be a consideration, as well. Dresses that are too short or too tight can often reveal more than you think as the girls walk up the steps and across the stage. Dresses that are too long can trip them as they navigate the stairs.
Shoes are another consideration. Safety is our first concern. For safety reasons, backless shoes are prohibited. The girls will be walking up steps, across the stage, and to their seats in these shoes. The steps leading up to the stage can be difficult to navigate. For this reason, we are also skeptical of higher heels. Please have your daughter practice walking up and down steps in her new shoes so that she is comfortable wearing them. She will also be wearing them during practice.
The 5th grade orientation was held last week. The 5th grade leaders spoke briefly, and this was followed by a Power Point slide show of current 5th graders in action. The 4th grade was matched with 5th grade buddies for lunch. This was followed by a tour and a brief visit to the four main academic classrooms of Mrs. Beausang, Mrs. Cohen, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Mangum. Mrs. Sterling has been meeting with the girls this quarter to talk about homerooms, advisory, lockers, dining hall, recess/extra help, performing arts/enrichment, assemblies, and chapel.
We hope that these opportunities will alleviate any anxiety and put your daughters at ease about Final Assembly and the transition to Middle School.

Happy Mother's Day
Your darling daughters have been working very hard on a beautiful project just for you! Ssh! I am going to let it be a surprise! This class is creative beyond belief and does gorgeous work. They also have a little surprise for you that they can access through our website.
What wonderful role models you are for them! I know that because of the kind of people they are and also by what they have written. I just hope that they don't forget to give these to you!!
What a week this has been! The girls worked so hard on their projects and presentations. This group of girls did a particularly comprehensive job of research. It was amazing to see the integration of what they had learned into posters, models and videos, etc. Test preparation was attacked with great energy, and I feel really good about the results. They took it seriously, and I know they did well.
You may be happy or relieved to know that the girls transitioned to the traditional division algorithm, and they did so with ease. Now, practice makes perfect. We're continuing with area and perimeter, scale drawing, etc.
Have a wonderful weekend, Moms! Relax, and let your sweet and competent daughters take care of you!

Fourthie Activity in May
May is here and along with that a lot of fun things for the Lower School and the Fourthies.
Monday, May 9, is Roberts' Fourthies day for the BOOK FAIR. 1:50 - 2:10. Your daughter should have a hard copy with all of the information in her backpack.
Wednesday, May 11 - Fifth Grade Orientation It will last from 9:00 - 1:00. The girls will have a wonderful visit in the Middle School and great chance to see what their school day will be next year. This is always a time of excitement, curiosity, and just plain fun! They will eat lunch with the Middle Schoolers.
More information to come about the Class Party, Final Assembly, etc., but it's too early to think about all of that.
Math
We are taking our time with Unit 7 in Math because it is all about Fractions, Equivalencies, and Probabilities. Fractions are challenging, so our goal is really to introduce basic concepts, practice working with them in different ways, including hands-on activities. The girls are beginning to understand how to find an equivalent fraction, but mastery will happen in later grades. When you order a pizza or make a giant chocolate chip cookie (What happened to the Cookie Factory?) then that's a great time for you to help your daughter understand the advantage of sharing with four people as to eight! Good concept builder!
After a fabulous field trip to Judge Lauck's courtroom and the Naturalization Ceremony, we are moving into our Immigration unit, a perfect way to introduce it. The girls learned so much from seeing people from all over the globe become citizens. To actually pledge your allegiance to another country is a big step, and the girls were there to see that. They each wrote wonderful letters to Judge Lauck telling her what they had learned in her courtroom and from the entire experience. I am proud of what terrific writers they have become.
The last few days they have been learning how to write Haiku, and I must say, they are getting really good at it. Tomorrow we are joining forces with the McCallum Fourthies to put them in an Animoto, so that will be a lot of fun!

What to bring: We will have a picnic lunch at school when we return so everyone will need to pack a lunch and a drink.
Description: This Wednesday the Fourthies will be attending a Naturalization Ceremony at the Federal Courthouse. They will actually see people from all over the world become American citizens. This is a wonderful opportunity for the girls and a perfect way to introduce our study of Immigration. While we are there we will visit a courtroom with Judge Hannah Lauck, who will explain to the girls how our justice system works. It’s an incredible morning for the Fourthies, and we are thrilled that they will have this experience.
